I also had to explain to my mum why my trousers were so dirty when I got home. I can guess your mum's response. "Oh yeah? And I'm Queen Victoria. Tell me what really happened!"

I also rmember a time (about 1975/6) as a 13yr old scallywag when my mate suggested we go and watch Tooting and Mitcham at their old Sandy Lane ground. Not wishing to part with our hard earned paper round money, we decided to bunk in round the far end of the ground. We hacked our way through some brambles and found a hole in the fence. I led the way by stooping down and squeezing through the gap when I heard a loud rip. I stood up to find I had torn a 6 inch L shape hole my brand new farrah trousers. I endured the rest of the afternoon with the ar*e of my y fronts on display much to the amusment of my unsympathetic mate!

Back in the mid/late 70's we were playing at home to Netherfield in the Northern Premier League and leading 1-0 when our winger floated a harmless looking cross high over the opposing goalmouth. From my vantage point right on the fence behind the middle of the goalnet i shouted "Leave it!!!!"
The Netherfield keeper and centre half, either of whom could easily have dealt with the non-threat, obeyed me, allowing our centre-half Ben Seddon to head, unopposed, our second goal.
As the recrimanations started in the Netherfield goalmouth, i felt i wanted the ground to open up and swallow me, especially when a few dark, suspicious glances were sent in my direction. We went on to win 7-0 so i suppose it didn't matter that much in the end.
I have never attempted to interfere with play since, no matter how unjust things get.
All my other embarrasments at grounds have come from being associated with the bar-coded clowns representing Stafford Rangers, especially when Tamworth are in town. If i do make it to SRFC v TFC I'm sure that the Boro' will live down to my expectations and Tiny Tamworth will hammer us again

I remember Netherfield from our North West Counties league days. Am I right in thinking they are Kendal now?

I remember Netherfield from our North West Counties league days. Am I right in thinking they are Kendal now? They are. We always seemed to be locked in a two-way fight for bottom place with Netherfield in our own Northern Premier days, I remember one away day up there where the Tamworth contingent (not including officials) numbered four, of which one was my mate (Villa fan, hated non-league football) who I had lured up there on the pretence of doing some walking in The Lakes.

Sound sufficiently authoritative and you can get away with saying any old rubbish. Apparently they want to use me a few more times this season, so you're obviously correct!

When I was 14 I travelled to Leigh for our game there and it was quite a bright sunny day. Standing on the terrace the sunlight kind of blinded me a bit so I turned around and walked head first into a crush barrier an ended up falling down several steps of terracing on my back.
Also that year we played at home to Bamber Bridge and I was stood nattering to a couple of people next to the turnstiles behind the goal. Croft Park then had an awful lot of grass where concrete is now and there was a large area of grass behind the terracing. Quite often during the warm up a lot of wayward shots would reach this area. I saw one of these wayward shots so went to kick it back over, upon doing so I complete slipped and fell into a big pool of mud and got covered from head to toe. Thankfully I lived just a few minutes down the road so nipped back for a shower and a change of clothes - my mum was most amused when I told her.
