Because there are going to be redundancy notices handed out at work and some bloody good men are going to lose their jobs (I could be one of 'em) for no damn good reason.
Been here before and the thing is even if you survive the cut you still feel awful inside.
Sorry about this downbeat post.

Perfectly acceptable Frankie; this place is not just about football, mate.
My job has me on the other side of the fence. When people are made redundant; they have to deal with me at some point. Your employer should make it as easy as possible for anyone affected to talk to either redundancy payments, or the jobcentre about what happens next - and there IS help out there. If it turns out to be you; let me know and I'll assist.

I've just managed to avoid the latest cull at our place and with a couple of new contracts in the pipeline I'm looking fairly secure at the moment, but I won't tempt fate too much. Good luck Frankie.

I had over a year of uncertainty in the job I was in. Company in serious financial problems, getting paid late (coming into work each day one month wondering whether today would be payday), going into administration, getting taken over, then merged, then coming back the day into the new year to be told they were shutting our department.
The redundancy consultation process was a nightmare, being put "at risk of redundancy", working in the same open plan office as another department who were safe, unless we applied for their jobs to put them at risk. Not good times.
Loads of people told me that whenever they'd been made redundant it had been for the best in the long term. Couldn't help but feel sceptical at the time, but it has worked out that way for me. Lump sum paid off my debts and gave me some savings for the first time in years and got a new job, on slightly less money, but far less stress.
Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the good wishes folks, it's a comforting thought to know people not only sympathise but also empathise with my situation.
I wasn't looking for sympathy just thought here is a good place to "talk" about things.
I'll be told my fate today, so I'll post later whatever.
Cheers folks.

I've been made redundant twice, but this was in the days when replacement jobs were easy to find.

I hope it was good news for you, frankeigth.
This has already happened to Mrs Sultan this year and as she was earning more than me it's been a bit of a blow. In addition, i've had to take a 10% paycut this year.
Government don't help at all. My son has just started 6th form college, but cannot claim EMA because it is based on last year's taxable earnings so because Mrs Sultan didn't get her cards 'til July we've just got to support him out of my reduced income.
I fear that this country is in such a mess now it won't get sorted in my lifetime...

What a horrible day. The good news is my employment is safe for the time being, phoned the missus to tell her and she gives me the news a very dear friend of ours has been rushed into hospital with a brain hemorrhage and is now fighting for their life. Sh1t.

Good news folks, my friend had an emegency op last night and it's been 100% successful. She still has to have another op tomorrow and that obviously carries some risks, but she's basically out of immediate danger and well on her way to recovery.
Thank you very much for your good wishes.
