There was a thread started on the Conf South forum last week about "what's your biggest ever opening day thrashing?" I couldn't think of one for Sutton - we haven't had a really big one in the last 16 years since I've been going. Then a day or two later the season started and we got splattered 5-0 at home to Woking Their performance - and ours - was worthy of the scoreline. Funnily enough, three days later we were the ones handing out a thrashing: 4-1 away at Tonbridge, who had won 4-0 away on the opening day! The first few weeks of the season always throw up some freakish results, but apart from seeing 10 goals in 2 games involving my team, the quite interesting thing is that Tuesday night's eight games yielded five results where one team scored four goals, including three 4-0s; Saturday's results had four, including three 4-0s. BSS fans are certainly getting their money's worth!

Well we weren't involved in a opening day thrashing one way or another. Had a couple of good opening games and got a haul of four points, which ain't bad for a bunch of AMATEURES. ;D
Nice to have actually made the start of the season, never mind four points and no goals conceeded, well chuffed.

We've never been on the receiving end of an opening day thrashing although we've splattered a few teams over the years. We also never lost an opening game in our 9 years in non-league. Our debut in league 2 was a 3-2 loss to Bristol Rovers Still, we've won the two subsequent games.

Well we don't seem to be joining in this BSS goal fest with 1 goal scored and 2 conceded in our 2 games.
Worst opening day I can remember was a 6-0 defeat at Boston United in the Southern Premier in the late 90s. That was the time when our away following was so small we'd take up the odd spare seat on the team coach. Kept our heads down on the way home!

I'll be happy when we beat someone who didn't finish below us last season (i.e. not Tonbridge, who we beat on Tuesday).

Well, we start tomorrow with a trip to Canvey Isalnd. Interesting times at Colston Avenue, with an influx of reasonable players but a clueless buffoon at the helm. The banning of several of my friends is so ridiculous, I can scarcely bring myself to speak of it. I am on the side of the 'bide our time and he will FO' brigade but worry where we will be when that happens. Frankie's tale is heartening though. Oh, can't remember any opening day tonkings; best I can think of is a 4-0 win over Walton and Hersham about 15 years ago wth Ian Hazel getting a couple.

It's all a bit Alice in blunderland at WLP - won our one away game and picked up nil points at home after two attempts...
Not won or lost any of them by more than one goal mind; so nothing to see here! ;D

It seems that away wins are in fashion in the BSS. Which doesn't bode well for us hosting Staines tonight!

3 games, 1 point, 1 goal, so pretty much business as usual at Stafford Rangers.

After the opening day thrashing, I never, ever would have expected 9 points from the next three games. But that's what we've got. Bottom of the league after the first game, now 4th!

After having fought back from -5 goal difference to 0, we now loose 3-0 to Bromley!! Interesting season so far to say the least!!
