How that man ever conned people into given him a contract as a professional footballer, let alone breaking transfer record fees in the process, is anyone's guess.
I was amazed to find out the other day he's listed as 6'4, yet he looks a good couple of inches shorter than 6'3 Andy Carroll the other day.

I could understand if he was really young but he's 21. Plenty of players playing with far more composure than he is at the same age.
Brian Clough always used to say the first thing he did at a club was bring in a strong, competent goalkeeper and I think he's right - Ferguson did this when he brought in Van Der Sar, when Brad Friedel, Shay Given, Craig Gordon, Tommy Sorenson were all available on the cheap why didn't he snap them up rather than breaking a record fee on a Spaniard who flaps around like a distressed bird? Not only is it more amazing that he wheels out Paul Scholes from retirement! But then again, the man knows far more about football than I do.
Stick with someone in their 30s, stick with someone who's proven in the premier league and preferably with someone who's over 6'3. I honestly believe you cannot go wrong.

Sadly, De Gea seems to have bucked his ideas since Lindegaard got injured and the little bugger's been instrumental in the rags ominous run of 19 pts out of the last 21, pulling off a series of athletic saves to preserve points at, notably, Chelsea and Norwich.  Last season, De Gea was playing for my favourite Spanish team, Atletico Madrid. He looked really good there, good enough to get selected for the Spanish U21's, and i was gutted when he left the roj y blancos to join the dratted rags.  You don't become a bad keeper overnight and let's face it any goalie with Smalling and Johnny Evans in front of him has his work cut out. He's got a bit of confidence about him, now, and his critics in the media have laid off.  Hopefully after this post, he'll lose his confidence again and start letting in loads of goals again. Unfortunately, he is more likely to emerge the hero as the rags take their 20th title this season.  |

People who think De Gea is crap don't know that much about Football IMO. Considering the defence (or lack thereof) in front of him at times this seasons (Jonny Evans?!? Like Darron Gibson he'd be better off at Everton) he's done rather well. He has one of the highest shots to saves ratios in the Premiership. His recent performances at Chelsea, Norwich and Spurs show his undoubted quality.
As for 21 not being that young, name me one regular-playing goalkeeper in the Premierleague who is younger.
Fact is, all goalkeepers will have a difficult time, particularly at an early stage of their career. SAF has always maintained that De Gea is a key part of United's future. One day he may be a rival to Joe Hart as the best keeper in the PL.

Given you're a Manure fan and a Sutton United fan with hardly an athletic figure, I think you're probably the last person to be saying who does/doesn't know much about football. De Gea is still rather hopeless. Even as Man U cruised by Tottenham, his reaction to Defoe's goal was comical. He simply watched as the ball bounced past him, he was as much a spectator as anyone in the ground. I honestly think Man United will go on to win the title as Man City lack the composure and the professionalism to be a truly great team but if there's a chink in the United armour, it's De Gea. And as for the silly comment about naming a player who's younger, Wojciech Szczesny was younger when he established himself as first choice at Arsenal at the tender age of 20. Tim Krul (23, Newcastle United), Simon Mignolet ( 23, Sunderland) Adam Bogdan (24, Bolton Wanderers) and Joe Hart (24, Manchester City) are all better keepers who've all demonstrated better value for money. |

Szczesny was younger than De Gea when he established at Arsenal. Unfortunately Szczesny has this curious condition where as time goes by, he ages, therefore he's not currently the same age as he was when he was first established. This may be a difficult concept for you to grasp, but fear not - he's still the same age as De Gea, and around twenty times the keeper. Anyone who watches football would've seen Defoes goal against Tottenham where De Gea simply watches the ball fly past him without any attempt to save it. As for Newcastle and Gateshead, at least they're proper clubs with fantastic fans - nee anagrams for other clubs in the league or being marketing the fanbase in the home counties via the far east. What exactly is your link to Man United again? Something like your dad once talked to a bird from Manchester or you spent a couple of years in a sub standard university round that way? If so, wouldn't it be preferable to support the proper Manchester club? |

Bless still acting like a 12 year old after all these years. To fill in a few gaps in your Football knowledge. Szczesny wasn't Arsenal's real 1st choice till he was about 21, hence why Arsenal seriously rotated goalkeepers last season (including bringing in Jens Lehman in). Szczesny made some high profile errors last season (he was 22 by the end of it, al that growing up and maturing, one day hey loy? ) anyone who watches Football and doesn't parrot what skysports or some blog tells them will know that of course. Evidently that doesn't include you. Yet. Anyone who watched the game on Sunday will know De Gea was underprotected by his defence for Spurs' goal. Thank goodness I watched some more of the game and saw the saves he made that kept United in it during the Spurs 1st half onslaught. Funny that, seeing more than once incident in the game. Good to see your parroting other myths people have told you inregards to the Newcastle support. One of the most over-rated support bases about. Funny how I know a few die-hard Newcastle fans with Welsh, South-West and London accents. Great marketing of the club in the 90's that, trying to copy the Manchester United model. Wo would the proper Manchester club be, the one owned by Americans or the one owned by the UAE (of course, not trying to market themselves to foriegn markets, oh no). Using me as a cover to break his "Tinpot silence" , David admits that he did struggle at first to get used to a new country, a new club, a new language and confusing English customs, such as having to pay for your own doughnuts! Having some ancient red-nosed tramp turning up in the dressing room yelling gibberish into his ear didn't help either. Things are on the up now, though. Wayne Rooney has taken up most of the refereeing work all over the pitch, and David has gotten used to the United tactic of wearing opponents out by allowing them to take as many shots on goal as they like. He has also wised up to other teams deploying one or two of their attacking players dressed in United shirts to add confusion in front of him. David promises he willl still look in TT from time to time. He's had a bit of a crush on ambersalamander since discovering our site as a teenager.  Although disappointed that the Sultan refuses to join him on the "dark side" he thanks Jared for his support, but is especially grateful to loyPRA, whose "stinging criticism"..." forced me to look deeper inside myself and work even harder to get things right."
