I too have sampled the beery delights of the Salamander in Bath -and am determined to get Ambersalamander to the place (and drinking Bath ales) when Sutton play at Bath City next April. So then we'll have Bath in Salamander in the Salamander in Bath. ;D What if I drink it in the bath at the Salamander? Then it'll be Bath in Salamander in the bath at the Salamander in Bath

It's a hazy ruby amber colour with some yellowish head, and a malty nutty aroma with dense spice and a touch of hop resins. The palate is sweetish but beautifully biscuity with a sappy, meaty note of crystal malt and hints of red fruit and smoke. A wash of hops heralds more roast and biscuity notes, with a very faint touch of coal dust in a soft, satisfying finish.I love that "very faint touch of coal dust". ;D Obviously it's that hint of coal dust that makes all the difference.

'Ere Malc. Have I mentioned rhubarb?? Tesco currently hold Marstons Rhubarb beer. Worth trying blindfolded if only to capture the aroma of the olde sweetie shop rhubarb and custard boiled sweets. Definite rhubarb nose and palate, bitter finish. Novelty beer; true - but there for the sampling. Incidentally, the reference to chilli beer; been done - works. No idea why, but it does. There's a celebration of all things chilli at West Dean College, West Sussex around this time of year. Chocolate, ice cream, beer - it's all there. Chilli chocolate.... Mmmmm! By the way; Blandford Fly; for some strante reason rates only at 4 / 10 for taste according to "Experts"* There is; if you can find it, a rather splendid cask ale of a similar ilk; Enville Ginger Beer. Now. On a hot day, I tend to veer away from many cask ales because they do not quench thirst; even some of the blonder, fruitier beers which happen to be my favourite anyway. Enville GB, if chilled a touch is a truly wonderful summer beer. I'll wager that Coops has tried it; it's relatively local. * My favourite ever definition of an "expert" is courtesy of The late Blaster Bates: "An ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure" So there.

I don't dismiss all 'expert' opinion out of hand, but there's a hell of a lot of bad 'expertise' out there.
Just watch a property/interior design/antiques bit of daytime telly if you're not convinced.
According to the media, EVERYTHING they say is right, and WE are all wrong. Whether or not we have the money to do everything exactly as we want to.
Watch daytime telly for half a day, with your brain in gear, and you will instantly realise that fashion is less valuable than a tomato skin.
