A very sad time indeed. Especially as it all seemed to start because some idiot thought it would be funny to commit arson.
As far as i'm concerned he should have been forced to pay every penny despite his age and then sent to jail. I'm 17 but have never had an urge to set anything on fire or break the law in any way, if I did I'd expect to be punished for what I did.
I'm not sure if there were any other factors but this definitely can't have helped.

Very very sad. I'm with you on this Giggy, how could they get any thing out of meaningless destruction.

I can only echo the sentiments above. I remember our close neighbours (and rivals) Eastwood Hanley going to the wall about 10 years ago after repeated thefts from their clubhouse followed by it being burnt to the ground. We all know that most clubs struggle to get by under the best of circumstances without something like this happening.
Ojive, I hope you'll still look in on us all from time to time.

I'm by no means an expert in the law (though my friend studies it, I may ask her) but I'm sure I've heard/read somewhere that insurance does not cover criminal damage as those responsible are expected to cover the costs. As this person was a child hence the court is scared of punishing them or making them pay it effectively leaves the victims with little they can do. Not sure how it would have panned out or if what I said is even remotely true, again, just a theory.

Very very sad. I'm with you on this Giggy, how could they get any thing out of meaningless destruction. The insurance money? Just a theory like. With no income, other than gate money, the insurance payout has been used to keep the team playing and pay expenses (rent to Solihull, travel, players' wages, etc.). It is believed that the policy only paid out on what was there and fell well short of rebuilding costs (as much as £2m). The ground will probably be sold for redevelopment and after the chairman has recouped his outstanding loans he has said that the net profit (several millions) will be donated to the new club, Solihull Moors. However this could take quite a long time as the site is a designated sports ground and as such only allows for redevelopment of 15% of the land for non sports usage. It may be some time before planning permissions to change the use and redevelop the site could be obtained as the local council will undoubtedly object to this. They have already said that they wish to see the site retained for sports use and would only agree to the 15% limit for redevelopment which would mean the resale value would be considerably lower without planning permission and any potential buyer would have to go through applying and having planning permission rejected, then appealing to the Secretary of State (currently John Prescott) to reverse the planing refusal, all of which would again cost a small fortune in lawyers' fees, none of which would find its way into the club's coffers, they would also be at risk of losing the case and being left with a site that they couldn't develop in any meaningful way.

Although Moor Green were a bit of a bogey side for us to say the least (indeed you spoiled my 42nd Birthday with a 4-3 win @ Marston Road) I am also sad to see the demise of such a proud, venerable club.
With the travails of the Moorland's ownwers in disposing of the ground, maybe there could be the chance of a de-merger and re-establishment, even if several rungs further down.

I'm sure there were talks about some of the fans forming an AFC Moor Green club (but hopefully NOT with that name, no more AFC's please). Don't know if it ever got past the talking stage though.

Sultan, there is no chance of a demerger in the future and as Coops says there was talk of fans forming Moor Green 07 FC but, to the best of my knowledge, it only got as far as one meeting. Some fans blame the chairman for subsidising the club at a higher level than it could afford to play at but, in truth, without the chairman taking over, Moor Green would have gone to the wall ten or eleven years ago. I can understand the frustration of fans that want to keep the name of Moor Green alive, I am one of them, but I have been spoilt by the relatively successful period that I've followed The Moors and wins over our bigger local rivals like, Hednesford Town, Nuneaton Borough, Stafford Rangers, Tamworth and Worcester City, results like our 5-2 win over Droylsden this season plus local cup wins over the likes of league clubs Kidderminster Harriers, Birmingham City reserves, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have brought joy to us all. Although I would have preferred to stay within Birmingham, having no affinity with Solihull whatsoever, I've come to the conclusion that we have to move on, albeit in a different guise. The core of the playing squad will be the same, the footballing management team will be the same, the changes will be at board level. Personally I believe we want our clubs to win every game they play, the corollary of that is to climb up the non-league pyramid. As for the Ceefax frame, I had nothing to do with that, I merely put the link up for others to visit.

Does this merger actually make Moors a stronger side at this level then Ojive?
Or are you just postponing the inevitable?
