On my way home today, I saw something that really ought to have had the Benny Hill music slapped all over it, thus making it even more amusing. I wish I'd captured it on camera ;D
Walking down a quiet road, I'm overtaken by a learner driver. At the same moment, another learner driver (from a different driving school) approaches from the other end of the road. Both are moving very slowly, suggesting that they are not yet particularly experienced. The road is very narrow, and I wonder how they will manage to pass each other.
This question is answered when it is revealed that they are not going to pass each other. The learner in the red car has clearly come here to practise her "reverse into parking space" manoeuvre. Unfortunately, so has the learner in the blue car. Both approach the same parking space. Both attempt to reverse into it simultaneously. One of them stalls. They glance at each other with identical looks of panic. They both turn to look at their instructors, who then stick their heads out of their windows and attempt to shout instructions at each other- but, as they are both sitting in their respective passenger seats, they can't communicate very effectively.
In the end, they manage to agree that the young lady in the red car will go first. The other chap attempts to reverse away from the vicinity (as there is no room to pass her) but it appears that he hasn't done very much of this sort of thing yet and ends up stranded across the middle of the road, boxed in between two parked cars and still blocking the way of the other learner. Instructor waves arms frantically and shouts at his pupil, who appears to panic and puts his head in his hand. The learner in the red car somehow manages to stall again (while inching forward to see if she can get out of the situation, I think), lurches forward and makes him jump out of his skin.
At this point, I'd walked past and decided it would be rude to stop and stare, so I never did find out how it ended. It was very, very amusing, though.
