On Thursday the Express & Star announced the death of former Wolves and England defender Bobby Thomson at the age of 65 after battling prostrate cancer. www.expressandstar.com/2009/08/20/wolves-legend-thomson-dies-65/Bobby also turned out for Stafford Rangers in the late 1970's towards the end of his career and was still a top-quality player. He also had a stint as Stafford Rangers manager in the early 1980s and stablised what was proving to be a very difficult time on the pitch and as i recall at least tried to get us playing a bit more enterprising football before unfortunately having to relinquish the post during our relegation season from the Alliance in 1982/3. Despite the results, i was one of the few sorry to see him go, although indirectly it paved the way for Ron Reid to bring success back to Stafford Rangers in the mid 80's. Thanks Bobby- you delighted me with your fullback play for us and i'm sorry it didn't work out in the end as our boss.
