...that is the question. I always enjoy Blyth v Telford games, it's a nice place, nice fans and usually a good, competitive match. The price isn't too much of a concern as I have a money off voucher for a game of my choice on the away travel coach. I don't mind long journeys (except on the way back if we lose). Also, recent results haven't been great so the team needs all the support it can get. However, I have karate lessons on Saturday mornings from 10:30-12:00. For home games and relatively close away games there is no problem as I go to the football after karate. With long distance games I choose carefully to avoid missing too much karate. Last week it wasn't on as the hall was double-booked, I got there the week before but missed the two weeks before that. The coach to Blyth leaves the New Bucks Head at 8:15 so there's no way of sneakily doing both. We play Blyth in a league game in February so I could just go to that one instead, however it is the week after our long trip to Harrogate. Ideally I wouldn't want to be missing two weeks of karate in a row so would probably have to choose one or the other. Oh and the game is this saturday, so I need to have made a decision by tomorrow at the latest.

It's not guaranteed that you'll get through against Blyth away either, so it could mean missing your team's last FA Cup game this season.
It's a tough one, but I suppose you'll have to weigh up which is more important to you.

Can I just say, and with all due respect to The Giggster and all that, I don't actually give a f***.

I have nothing against Blyth as a club, but the place is absolutely awful. A drug deluged hell hole that would be better off condemned as the site to host all of Britain's Nuclear Waste than as a tourist destination. Saying that, I have a friend in Newbiggin and I would rather her not be radioactive.
Basically Giggy, I'm not being cynical or negative or nasty here or questioning your commitment to the Telford cause, you're an enormously canny lad but when it comes to support I think you can be a bit of lightweight - when it comes down to it you've got to choose between karate and football and give priority to one or the other. I'd choose football ten times out of ten as it's basically addiction - and I don't just mean Gateshead, I mean the Uzbekistani women's league, amputee's league, Texas over 70's five a side league, wheelchair league - I'd even push myself to go and endure Newcastle United providing I didn't have to pay to get in.
Or of course attend Karate on another night. I used to attend Judo at my Dojo religously, but often given I was unemployed I'd find myself attending six out of seven nights all around the North East in various dojos, once rather scarily facing a load of Royal Marines and Royal Navy Personnel! There's classes on all over shropshire. However for me, it was football the religion, Judo the obsession.

For the record i can't speak for Blyth as a town, I have only been to the football ground and have always found them to be a nice lot. Given it's a 160 mile round trip for me to get to a home game (from Leicester) and I do it every week I wouldn't really say I'm a light-weight supporter. Last year on a number of occasions I had an exam, as soon as it finished I went straight to the station to get to a game that day. I've taken half-days off from college when we've been sent to Gateshead/Barrow midweek and an equal distance in the opposite direction for a friendly in Havant. I missed this game as I take my karate very seriously and can't afford to keep missing it. I decided I'd settle for Radio Shropshire coverage this match, I think it's the third time I have done that this season. One of the other two was a midweek game in Worcester I couldn't get to due to lectures. I only got back into karate last year having taken 5 years out due to ill health so I really want to make sure i keep it up. My karate club is in Telford so I can only be there on weekends when I'm home from uni. There is a Wednesday session but I can only get to that in the holidays. The closest two groups to Leicester that are affiliated to my club are Loughborough and Telford, therefore I figured my best bet was to keep it up when I went back on weekends. For the most part it works as home games are straight forward and i can get to some away games afterwards. When karate and football clash I try to keep it balanced, if I have been to karate a lot then missing 1 week won't hurt, if I have missed a lot recently then I won't progress. (rant over)

I think everyone accepts that, Giggy. In fact, I'm sure you're a more devoted fan than a lot of people who go away to uni and forget about their team (although my round trip to a home game would be more like 400 miles ) If you come to the Blyth game later in the season then make sure you tell me when it is and I'll try and make it to buy you a drink for being such a devoted tinpotter

That told YOU Giggster! Is Blyth uglier than Hebburn? Yes, Hebburn has been subject to gentification recent times due to cheaper house prices and surrounding green fields, plus proximity to the Tyne. Social club chic will beat the recession in Hebburn upon Tyne.
