...in today's Evening Standard.
8 Down: "Unimportant point made over tea initially."
"Made over" means reworked, so rearrange the letters of the word POINT.
"Tea initially" means the first letter, or initial, of the word TEA, so T.
The whole is something that means "unimportant"
This gives the following answer...
"TINPOT" ;D
I am happy now.

For being considered "unimportant"?
I hope so - I never did like the Standard. I only pick it up now it's free to give myself some puzzles to do on the train home. They're not great though: I did the Codeword in under three minutes today ;D

I don't believe it - 1 Across in today's Standard special is "Unimportant point elaborately made by the Tory leader." It's TINPOT again! There's also a me-clue: "Does it mean Sarah's consumed gin unwisely?" My name is Sarah, but it's SAL for short. If you get SAL to consume an unwisely-spelled version of GIN, you get SIGNAL. I think I ought to write to the Standard and ask them to stop calling us unimportant. Then I may write a play called The Importance of Being Tinpot, just to show them.

Nice to have this thread resurrected while I'm doing the Times crossword. I can't see that pic on here but will take a look later. Sounds like a device I've seen before. I don't suppose you'd be kind enough to transcribe the clues, would you? So that's your website is it?

A little more downmarket, yesterdays S*n crossword contained the clue: (easy) -" Paltry" (cryptic) -" Inferior metal cooking vessel "
I think we all know the answer to that one!!
