Not-Mrs VotP went off to her Mum's in Reading yesterday in preparation for the festivities. Or rather she didnt as she was trapped in the sudden snowfall that happened in West Londonshire. Got to within 3 miles of destination when she had to abandon the car and was lucky enough to have a friend nearby to offer acconmmodation for her and Votp2 and 3 (aged 2 and 7 weeks). The thing is we had checked all weather sites and spoken to locals and the forecast was good apart from possible sleet post 18:00. At least she was rescued today and the boys have had a great time. Car is still on doule yellow though or possibly in police pound. Maybe I will make it there on Thursday or maybe I will stay for the derby on Sat.

Fingers crossed for you votp as apparently the ticketers and clampers have been out in force despite the weather- or rather they've spotted another opportunity to fleece the motorist. After being robbed by Birmingham council this year i know how annoying it can be.

If motorists didn't break the law, they wouldn't get done... I have little sympathy, sorry.
As for the Met Office, watching BBC news this week they have been bang on every day. They correctly forecast the snow that Not-Mrs VotP got caught by (Southern and South-eastern England, including rural London up as far north as Oxfordshire, IIRC) and last night's 'torrential ice'. Motorists have been told every day to stay off the roads, advice ignored by everyone except bus drivers it would seem.

Jase.
1) I think you're being a bit harsh where people have been forced to abandon a vehicle because of the weather. Are you a cyclist, perhaps? 2) In my own case i didn't break the law. I was in the Pershore street carpark with a legally bought ticket which still had 20 minutes left to run when i was ticketted. My "crime" was to put the ticket on the back window, as i had done many times before, out of consideration for the warden so that he wouldn't have to walk round to the front to check the ticket. When i challenged it i was told that despite the fact that the ticket was clearly displayed there is some small print on the back of the ticket that states it has to be in the windscreen. I don't think that what i did was actually breaking the law (mind you with the extra 300+ criminal offences created since this government came to power i've lost track and could well have been in breach of anti-terrorist legislaton). I was just unlucky on this occaision that the warden was going off shift ( i saw him walking towards the Rag Market minutes after, unbeknownst to me, he'd perpetrated the foul deed) and just used a technicality to grt his quota up and leech £25 out of me. 3) Motorists have been told to stay off the road. Fine and dandy and if the alternatives had existed to get me from Cannock to Toyota on time then i would've been only too happy to let someone else take me there. I'm sure many otheres feel the same way, too. I suspect though, that even if a railhead had been built at Burnaston as was mooted when the factory was first built, that Notwork Rail (just like when i used to work in Oldbury and took the train ) wouldn't have been able to get me there at the first sign of snow and the car would've had to come out anyway.

1. If you're forced to abandon a vehicle in the kind of urban area that has double yellow lines, I'd suggest you failed to plan your journey adequately. However, it can be unavoidable at times, in which case I'd assume it is the duty of the motorist to remove the obstruction at the earliest opportunity (not their convenience), which would almost certainly be before the authorities got to deal with it. 2. You failed to pay and display, so you broke the law (or perhaps bylaw). You must be the only person on the planet that tried to make a traffic warden's job easier! ;D However, with everyone else being so 'inconsiderate', you probably made life a little harder for the poor soul. If you're not prepared to make yourself aware of the rules and regulations governing a usage of a particular facility, well, that's just asking for trouble! 3. Move to within walking distance of your job, or accept the additional costs that come with your alternative choices. Your company should probably invest in some contingency planning if it is that essential for people to attend...

Amber-If i'd had a dispute with Osama Bin Laden, Mahmood Armhadinajhad and Abu Hamza, Jase would find some way of backing them against against me. ;D At the end of the day I'm a Stafford Rangers fan and Jase supports teeny-tiny Tamuff. As such it eats into him to know that even if they followed Wigan into the Premier League and we slipped back into the Midland Combination we's STILL be a bigger club than them!

A certain Solihull Moors fan was talking to me once in the bar after a game about the times when he used to post on the Tamworth forum. Apparently a certain Jase J would argue black was white just for the sake of disagreeing with someone ;D

I'll have you know that young Esaj J is a Doctor in Chemistry and is an expert on Wolf Cocks, among other things.

Or attempting to derail threads in the interest of petty point scoring? If you think that I ought to justify all of my self-contadictions and mistakes to a keyboard warrior such as yourself then you are clearly far more arrogant than you seem to have concluded that I am.

The thread was about the met office and you posted about Jase. I merely continued it on. Not really fair to point the finger at me. Thank you for the keyboard warrior comment, friend. It's taken on board with much mirth. No doubt I'll be harangued for being ultra aggressive and starting rows from est gestapo

On the other hand, your comment "Better than perpetuating anecdote as fact just because someone studies a history degree ahummmmmm?" appears very snidey and sarcastic in cold print. In an environment where we can't see each other's faces or hear the tone of each other's voices it's easy to see how misunderstandings can crop up. I tend to look at the preview before hitting the "post reply" button and ask myself " does it look nice and is it neccessary?" For instance, i'd argue that this posting is "nice" because i'm being even-handed and non-abusive and "neccessary" because i'd like this to remain a forum of friends where we can exchange opinions without picking each other to shreds as if it's a court of law and/or calling each other names. "Better than perpetuating anecdote as fact just because someone studies a history degree ahummmmmm?" does not look nice and in view of the fact that Jase as a "Doctor of Chemistry and expert on Wolf Cocks" is more than capable of holding his own against a mere history student then it wasn't neccessary either. Lets play nice, eh folks?
