Probably another golden oldie ( like me ) but following this reminiscence about the 1974/5 FA Cup from the Dickie Guy thread... " 1974/5 was the year of the "giant-killer", as apart from Walsall putting out Man United, Wimbledon beat Burnley (then a 1st Division team) Leatherhead put out Colchester and Brighton while Stafford Rangers defeated Stockport, Halifax and Rotherham to all reach the 4th round." What was significant about the Final that year?

Well, it wasn't the 'orange ball' final, that was a couple of years before. The only thing I can think of was that the only final that Fulham has competed in.
I bet that's not the answer though, is it?

Ah. West Ham were the last English club to field an all English team in the final.

Yes, I was getting muddled up with 1980 when West Ham won the FA Cup while a Second Division side.

Ah. West Ham were the last English club to field an all English team in the final. This is correct, and it also remains, to date, Fulham's only appearance in the final. However, it isn't the answer i'm specifically looking for. :oIf it hasn't been found by the time i awake from my post night-shift slumber tomorrow dinnertime (C'mon Frankiegth Paxman, where are you ) i'll don my tin-hat and spill the beans..

The last FA Cup final that Birmingham City failed to reach at the last hurdle, despite contesting a semi-final replay?

It was the last Final NOT to feature at least one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton or Man United.
BTW, the Man Utd kocked out by Walsall that year was SECOND DIVISION MANCHESTER UNITED.
By the Lord Harry, that sounds GOOD - 2nd Division Man United.
England winning the World Cup. Man U and Spurs getting relegated. Kidderminster, Tamworth and Hednesford in the West Midlands League, Stafford Rangers in the 4th round of the FA Cup and Wolves in the 4th Division.
Precious memories. Laying here now, hair greying, joints creaking and body aching in places where i never even knew it had places a few years ago on reflection maybe there are some advanrages to being chronologically gifted after all....
