With a couple of vacancies now aparently appearing at SKY Sports i'd like to nominate our very own, knowledgeable female footy folk Ambersalamander and Meadow to replace them. Both are certainly steeped in the beautiful game for many years and the aplomb with which Sal handled the fat fool on JurassicSPORT a few months ago should impress the recruiters Although i don't mourn the extinction of a couple more dinosaurs ( indeed, i can recommend a stint of packing tea-boxes at minimum wage at DHL in Cannock for messrs Gray and Keys) i do feel a scintilla of sympathy as they were "off air" at the time and not doing any real harm. Sepp "Berlusconi" Blatter, on the other hand, publicly stated that the best way forward for women's football was for the players to wear beach volleyball kit yet stays on causing chaos in the world game... The young lady at the centre of the storm, Sian Massey, is now known as "Just For Men" around the Wolverhampton area because Wolves only used her once and now the Gray is gone...

Ha, you toady Not a job for me though, I'm afraid. I could never work for those c***s. Besides, my boobs are not big enough. And nothing is going to take me away from my own team A lot of people have made the point about the comments being off air and "not really harming anyone." I do agree to an extent, but only a little. The fact that a lot of people seem to be overlooking is that this is symptomatic of institutional sexism at Sky which, thank goodness, some measures seem to be taken towards addressing, although it may be a drop in the ocean. You simply cannot be allowed to be heard saying such things in the workplace. End of.

Ha, you toady End of. Well nobody else had been on here since my last post on Jan 21st so i had to try and guarantee at least ONE reply institutional sexism at Sky Sexism in the media cuts both ways. As far back as the mid-sixties i heard an alledged comedy skit by Shiela Hancock on Radio4 where she translated everything a man ever says to a woman at any time to mean "take your clothes off" and i find some of the stuff that Jo Brand comes out with quite offensive. What took the biscuit for me was an article in the light-hearted section of Central News. It concerned female security guards at a leisure centre being caught watching naked men on the CCTV. Had it been male guards watching naked women then it would've been a case of Go Directly To Gaol Do Not Pass Go Do Not Collect £200 But Sign On The Sex Offenders Register for 10 Years - and rightly so! In this case, however, it was treated as a huge joke. I would've been horrified if someone of either gender had been spying on me in that way, but as men we're just supposed to laugh that off along with the myrid of thicko male characters in ads, etc. I do take your point, though. A few years ago Amy Raynor really stunk the place out at Marston Road. At one point it appeared that she was losing control and a male lino had to step in to calm things down. We've had any number of hapless, faceless male officials perform poorly, but Amy sticks in the mind because of her gender. Unfair as it is, thats the way it will be into there are more women officiating and the novelty wears off. Likewise Sian Massey. A PE Teacher and qualified referee, she has the required fitness levels and looking at the decisions she made on Saturday the required judgement and knowledge. She is also tough, not hesitating to send off our captain, Craig McAughtrie, a 6ft+ burly copper in the Burton police force when reffing us in conference north. I thought it scandalous that The Sin printed a scantily clad picture of her on the front page with the double-entendre headline "Get Them Off". Just because she happens to be female with a disappointingly flat chest. Post script: The delectable Mrs Sultan is a confirmed football hater who only watches every 4 years when the World Cup is on. She has a perfect understanding of the offside law...

I'm not sure you completely got my point, Sultan. Sexism is wrong in either direction. Just because some sexism is perpretrated by women does not in any way make any other sexism OK. For the record, I find female-against-male sexism just as outrageous and unacceptable as the other way round. Those security guards should have been severely punished. And although the Sheila Hancock thing was basically a response to misogynistic behaviour in some men, she was wrong to tar all men with the same brush.
When I referred to the intitutional sexism at Sky, I wasn't referring to comments made by individuals, but to the culture there in which comments like that might be seen as innocuous. This is wrong.
I mean, just look at the female Sky Sports presenters compared to the males in terms of age, attrctiveness, etc. That tells you all you need to know.

There's a description of the perfect pairing for an American news show - the anchors should fit the roles of Uncle and Niece. Slightly disturbing to my mind.

The American news show "ideal" panders to stereotypes of both kinds. Women are supposed to prefer the distinguished, elder statesman sort of man ( a bit like me really ;D )who takes away their girly insecurity and makes them feel safe and warm, while men are supposed to be so thick that they'll tune in to boost the ratings just so they can look at a pretty girl regardless of what the programme is. Sal, i got the point ( are you implying i'm thick just because i'm male, eh?? Eh??? ) but just felt that i wanted to develop the thread a little more as the overwhelming bulk of the media coverage has been anti-male, tarring us all with the same brush. I don't subscribe to sky and don't see their sports news since they took it off freeview, but i did read in "i" a description of their female presenters as "looking like a line up for Miss World." I also read that the young lady victim of Andy Gray's lewd comments had not been averse to removing her clothes for lad-mags, thus exploiting the educationally sub-normal by persuading them to part with their money for a quick flash and a cheap thrill. A nasty, exploitative culture all round, yak!
