Result today. On FA Cup final day 2011 Blackpool beat Bolton 4-3 in a repeat of the cup final result of 1953. Can't see it saving Blackpool' premiership skin as Wolves won today aswell.

Yes, i did, and was going to post it after i'd checked my facts (couldn't remember if it was 4-3 or 5-3) and you beat me to it.
I do recall someone on the coverage of Blackpool's play-off win at Wembley last year mentioning that final and that Stan Mortenson of Blackpool remains the only player to score a hat-trick in a Wembley FA Cup and going on to tell us " He even had the game named after him, the Matthews Final." ;D
Bit of FA Cup "trivia". What was special about yesterdays final which hasn't happened since 1974/75 (the year Stafford Rangers got to the 4th round proper)?

Match of the Day picked up on it. Thought it was very interesting! (Looked like a good game, too)

Saturday was the first final since 1974/5 NOT to feature at least ONE of Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal or Man Ure.

Nice one, Meadow. I'd completely forgotten about that final, no excuses should've checked up the facts before posting rather than relying on an ageing, fading memory. I do remember driving past Notts County's ground and putting a "Sultan's Curse" on them the day before they played Havant & Waterlooville that season. I remember the Hawks winning that one! The rest of it was pretty traumatic. Stafford Rangers went down 5-1 at Cambridge United in a 4th qulaifying round replay and my interest finished with Havant's exit at Liverpool and City losing at Sheffield United thanks to Michael Ball kicking one of the balloons some of our fcukwitted fans had released onto the pitch instead of the football thus allowing the Blades to score.

In defence of "The Sultan" don't crucify him for having a bit of finger trouble on the keyboard. When he posted 1974/75 he meant 2008. ;D
An easy slip, the numbers are all on the same row. ;D ;D

You mean you don't know for certain? Well one cotton-picking moment Dep'ty Dawg! If you have come on and asked a quiz question to test our genral knowledge then you should already have the answer to hand. Fat lot of use Paxman would be on University Challenge if he hadn't got the answers, likewise the mc at any pub quiz. C'mon Frankie, it's your quiz, and (as some of my former West Ham supporting workmates would've said) SOR' IT AHHHHHHT! I despair of the younger generation today..... In defence of "The Sultan" don't crucify him for having a bit of finger trouble on the keyboard. When he posted 1974/75 he meant 2008. ;D An easy slip, the numbers are all on the same row. ;D ;D I didn't think it would be long before you'd be banging on about this one. You were certainly on a roll! Well, you had to wait a long time but you finally got me back. OK Paxman it's a fair cop ;D
