Medical tests have revealed Matt Gadsby died from a heart condition known as Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy. ARVC (or Dysplasia as it is also known) is an inherited condition that affects the muscle of the right ventricle of the heart. The right ventricle may become progressively more unable to function efficiently due to muscle cells being replaced by fatty deposits and scar tissue. The incidence of ARVC is thought to be approximately 1 in every 5000 people and has been found to be a major cause of sudden death in young fit athletes or young adult men. The initial Matt Gadsby Memorial Fund target of £25000 has nearly been reached with pledges of support continuing to flood into the football club. On Sunday October 29th, Dean Thomas will take an 'All Stars' team across to Newton Regis to play Newton Thistle FC with the game being sponsored by Polesworth Garage. The following weekend, the Marston’s Stadium hosts their first event – a sports auction and get together, followed by a disco. The Auctiuon and Disco to take place on the evening of Friday 3rd November, in the Normandy Suite at Lacey's Bar. Items have been flooding in for the auction and include Michael Owen’s World Cup 2006 boots, a signed England shirt, signed Liverpool shirt, Manchester United hospitality, one of Robbie Savage’s signed shirts worn in the Premiership with Blackburn Rovers, Emile Heskey and Chris Kirkland signed shirts from Wigan Athletic, signed Leeds United shirt, Leicester Tigers hospitality, signed England v Sri Lanka cricket bat, signed Darren Maddy and 20/20 items, a Range Rover for the weekend, designer jewellery, plus every Premiership club and Midlands team have been contacted for items to be auctioned, so further lots are expected to arrive before the night. Matt Gadsby’s whole family will be down on the night to support the event with tickets on sale at Lacey's Bar or reception of The Marston’s Stadium priced £5. Tickets are also available at the Hinckley Times Offices, Bar Vis-à-vis and Kasey’s Hotel, alternatively or you can pay on the night.
Looking ahead to next year and the major game being planned for April 1st at the Marston’s Stadium featuring a range of major ex-internationals lining up against Hinckley United and a range of Matt Gadsby’s former colleagues, with ITV Sport’s Jim Rosenthal has personally offering his services at the event which has so far been also supported by England manager Steve McClaren and ex-England boss Graham Taylor who is helping to bring players into the event. The Professional Footballer’s Association are sending out letters to a number of their members asking them to support the event.
