Don't forget to take a placard. Like "Hi Mum", or "The bloke behind me can't see". On Sunday I wanted to do "Don't you just hate all those silly placards people bring to televised games" but didn't get the opportunity. Good luck on your big day. Will hope to watch it, since I suspect we will be hosting Yeading that day, rather than Charlton.... [HAVE ADDED THIS 'placard' THING TO "While queueing for the Tea Bar..."]

Two good reasons for liking your last result in the poxy FA Cup now, coops:
1. The R & D fans' forum is even more full of doom and gloom than normal, and
2. Tamuff gets all that lovely TV appearance money instead of the hard-up Diamonds
Not that I'm biased in any way ;-) :-)

Actually I have a bit of sympathy for Rushden, the fans I spoke to seemed to be the ones who were there before Max the sugardaddy took over, they have enjoyed the ride and are now seeing their club seemingly sliding back to oblivion. That's going to be one heck of a stadium in the Southern League.

I assume you meant they supported Rushden Town or Irthlingborough Diamonds before the evil that was Max Griggs entered stage right, coops.
To be honest I feel sorry for the supporters of those two teams. Two United Counties League teams going nowhere (actually ID were quite good when I were a lad) with rubbish crowds combined by the aforementioned sugar daddy who poured millions into his play thing, and whose bought success dragged glory-hunting fans away from the likes of Cobblers, Wellingborough (once a good team) and a certain other team in the E Midlands. My brother-in-law used to go to Poppies' games with me but fell so much under the influence of R & D that he became a steward for them. Now he can't even be bothered to look for their scores on a Saturday afternoon.
Things have got so bad for them that they have closed one of their stands because the cost of opening it for a game far outways any income they could generate from it. Attendances are plummeting and the bloke who has recently become chairman says he isn't going to throw money to improve the team. They are deep in relegation zone doodah. All of this is causing apoplexy amongst their 'life-long' supporters - many of whom are actually older than 12!
Original supporters of Rushden/Irthlingborough have every reason to be downhearted. I have no sympathy whatsoever for the jumpers on the bandwagon*, though. They deserve all they get.
* Makes a change from 'jumpers for goalposts'

At least Griggs put his money where his mouth is and built his merged baby a spanking new ground, so providing R&D with the infrastructure they'd need to continue after his involvement ceased. And when he retired he handed the club over to the supporters' trust, which was decent of him. R&D's glory days may now be behind them, but it's hard to see the club sinking as far down the pyramid as the United Counties League. There's little doubt that Mr G gave a leg-up to football in the south east corner of Northants.
