I'm interested but, sadly, a 600+ mile round trip on a Saturday's a bit of an ask

I'm interested but, sadly, a 600+ mile round trip on a Saturday's a bit of an ask Don't be soft, it's more around the 450-500 mile mark Besides which we do those sort of trips on a regular basis and it's no bother.

Route summary Start: Basingstoke, England, United Kingdom End: Blyth, England, United Kingdom Total distance: 315.9 mi I can do maths and geography! ;D There's also an option of a train ticket from Tamworth to Blyth return but I suspect the chances of me making Tamworth for an 07:10 departure are somewhat slim! Beastleigh: If I can be arsed to get out of bed at a reasonable hour (spot the oxymoron ) and get everything done that I intend to tomorrow is actually doable. I do need, however, to actually achieve the getting up thing and, with the way Sutton's season's started, weigh up whether I need to be surrounded by pissed off Sutton supporters en masse (Ooh, when are you going to get that 'evil' emoticon for this board?). Sutton supporters (well, one or two, may receive a call if I do decide to go, but don't hold your breath*. *It's a free country (actually it's not, it's costing me a f***ing fortune) so if you so desire please feel free to hold your breath. If you've got hiccups it's a good start, although... Mark's abstract tip of the week... If you've got hiccups, get a teaspoon full of sugar, throw it onto the back of your throat and swallow it (apparently vinegar also works). Don't ask me how it works but it does

Well. By all accounts, the best place to stay was Basingstoke yesterday afternoon. I hear from our resident Eastbourne Borough fan that a near-miracle took place there. As I understand it, Eastbourne ended the 90 minutes 2-0 down, then went absolutely bananas and somehow managed to win the game 3-2 in injury time. This means that Eastbourne are now top of the league, curse them So. If you're looking for Martello, he's the one with the nosebleed Not far away, in Eastleigh, we too witnessed a miracle. Yes!!! SUTTON WON! We were trying to work out when we were last 2-0 up in a competitive match, and decided it was some time last March, possibly Basingstoke. Fellow Suttonites, how could I have forgotten? April 14! We beat Eastbourne 3-1, and were definitely 2-0 up at half time. I remember this well because a certain person was sulking and I was pretending nothing had happened I can't believe that one slipped my mind. Anyway, we appear to have broken the duck now, which is lovely. We led 1-0 after an inexplicable screw-up by the keeper, who then seemed to disappear completely as Ross Montague walked the ball into the net from about six yards out. Only Mark Watson could have missed one like that; in fact he did once. We were all cheering when the ball was still some way away from the goal because Ross Montague is not Mark Watson. Unfortunately, having made a very positive start and actually playing some FOOTBALL, Sutton fell asleep for most of the first half. Fortunately Eastleigh weren't quite as good as their results to date suggest; however, they were a damn sight better than the motley Maidenhead bunch who beat us 3-0 on Monday. It's a funny old game. The chips were super at Eastleigh, by the way. And so was the opportunity to take the mickey out of Eastleigh's 'keeper James Pullen, who has his name tattooed on his arm in case he forgets it and had a real nightmare of a day yesterday. At one point, he seemed to forget he was about 2 yards out of his area and pounced on the ball, handling it twice, but for some reason was only presented with a yellow card for that (probably because it didn't deny a clear goalscoring opportunity as none of our players were that close to him). We didn't need a goalkeeping fluff for our second goal though: it was class! A bit of fancy footwork by Warren McBean, who astonishingly PASSED THE BALL!!! to Montague, who slotted it in nicely. For those who don't know Mr. McBean, let it be said that if he can see the goal from where he is then he thinks nobody else is allowed the ball. Eastleigh scored in the last few minutes too, but who gives a toss about them? It was fun.

End to end flowing football, non-stop action, sublime skill..........................Blyth Spartans vs. Tamworth had none of this. But it did have plenty of effort from two troubled sides and a hell of an injury time equaliser. Zoom forward to the 77th minute and not long after hitting the post from a header Tamworth took the lead through one of those goals you don't often remember. There seemed to be no way back into the game for us as we never really looked like scoring. On came sub Hedley who although not rated for his footballing ability can take a hell of a throw in. With about 30 seconds remaining we got a throw in, Hedley threw it in and was cleared but the clearance fell to Thompson just outside the area and he volleyed a looping shot over Jose Veiga for the equaliser ;D 1-1 was a fair result and no more and no less then both sides deserved. Not the greatest of matches but there was a very good atmosphere from the terraces very well helped by the excellent travelling Tamworth support.

I'm amazed at Jose Veiga's resemblance to Darren Acton. (Coops will know what I mean).

I like Darren Acton, he gifted us a point at Nuneaton last season by dropping a harmless cross into his own net.
