For me there is no way Shevchenko can claim that first goal against Forest. Although on target the goalie had it covered and in all probability there was a 99.99% chance he'd have saved it. That is until Curtiss got his leg in the way and deflected it totally in the opposite direction.
To me that is a 100% nailed on solid gold, copper bottomed own goal.

In these situations, an OG is precisely what Mr Moronio states it to be. This was undoubtedly a fine finish by a supremely talented and superlatively expensive player of international pedigree, playing for the most entertaining team on the planet. Chelsea cannot possibly score either by accident; or as a result of someone else's misfortune. There can be no dispute. His striker cost an awful lot more than the Forest defender; ergo was more proficient and the more likely to score. Actually; that's poo! He got the sympathy vote!

I doubt either the defender or striker will want it to be put down as O.G., the striker will want to claim it, the defender won't want to be blamed, that's how it usually works.

What you mean the defender and the striker can actually get married in the middle of the game now?

I've been lead to believe that, because the initial shot was on target, even though it looked like the 'keeper was going to save it, the goal is attributed to the striker.

What you mean the defender and the striker can actually get married in the middle of the game now? Well that would be the goal celebration to end all goal celebrations. Makes doing a jig 'round the corner flag look a bit tame. ;D

If a player were to take an in-direct free kick, it was heading towards goal, took a deflection and went in, would the striker still be awarded the goal? Surely it would have to be credited as an own goal?

Good point Dazab, what about a throw-in, thrower or deflector. If a 'keeper touches a corner into his own net it's an og. How did d you see Arsenals' third in the semi final, I think it belongs to the striker, but the defender got the last touch forcing it over the line! By the way 'we' have yet to benefit from an og this season, or a home penalty for that matter!!

Why should that be a bad thing? We ought to be scoring goals ourselves!
