The following was posted on the Vics fans' website, Friday:
(Quote)"And it may be too late to do anything about it, BUT,
given the fact that Peter Grimes informs us that the consortium deal is done and Vics' immediate crisis is all but at an end, would it be a decent gesture if the "bucket" that was given to the Vics Trust by Exeter fans earlier in the season now be passed on to Stafford Rangers fans at Marston Road tomorrow?
I hear that Stafford are in desperate financial straits at the moment with loan players having to be sent back to their clubs and the assistant manager laid off.
Like Vics, Stafford Rangers are a club with a great non-league pedigree over many, many years with stalwart supporters who deserve all the help they can get and they are a club that shouldn't be allowed to go down the pan needlessly. If Vics fans can do anything to assist our Stafford friends in their time of need just as the Grecians did for Vics, would that not emphasise the amazing unity that generally exists amongst football fans at this level?
I'll not be able to get to Marston Road tomorrow unfortunately, but will pledge that if something is done by Vics' fans at the game, I'll send a donation to a relevant SRFC fundraising body immediately." (unquote)
In the event £86.50 was raised. Plans are afoot for SRFC fans to pass the bucket on, possibly to Halifax who are also in the smelly stuff.
Good that despite on-field rivalries we can show support for each other as footy fans.
