Well, this being the "I DON'T EFFING BELIEVE IT!" section, I'm going to have a Victor Meldrew foaming at the mouth moment.
The cooker oven decided to give up the ghost about ten days ago and a repair seemed far too expensive to contemplate so, days were spent trawling t'internet looking for a replacement. Not any old replacement, mind you, it had to be gas and as we don't like white cookers or green cookers or brown cookers we were looking for a black one to replace the silver stainless steel one that had expired. Stainless steel is fine but you must use baby oil to clean it and I have a far more intersting use for baby oil that involves Mrs Ojive......NO, we won't go there .
Anyhow, having found several black cookers with long delivery times we finally found one in stock at a company in Bolton, duly ordered it and waited for it to arrive, which it did on the day they said it would, last Thursday. Although not a qualified gas fitter I know enough to fit a cooker safely and did so, taking the bread out of the mouths of the babes of Corgi accredited craftspersons. Mrs O threw some pizza and chips into the oven and we waited in anticipation of our first meal from our shiny new black cooker, and waited, and waited, and waited. About an hour in all, before said pizza and chips were cooked enough to kill off any lingering salmonella, lysteria, ecoli, etc..
It appeared that the oven section was suffering from a similar condition to the cooker we had just put outside to await collection by the local council. Mrs O blamed me. After all if I hadn't tried to save a few quid by fitting the bugger myself, all would have been well. Apparently. On Friday I booked a Corgi fitter (isn't Corgi fitter a strange phrase? One imagines....no, I can't go there!) to come round on Saturday and fit the bugger correctly, which he duly did, after bollocking me for knowing how to fit one myself.
Low and behold, there is a fault with or blockage in the bypass (no, I have no idea either, but I'm glad I'm not suffering it myself).
It being the weekend there was no way of contacting the manufacturer to arrange for an engineer to come out and look at or repair it, although their website claimed that they would be available Monday to Friday from 8am. Ho bloody ho. I started telephoning at 8am this morning and left a message describing the fault and leaving my contact details as requested. No-one phoned back, so I started phoniong every five minutes from 8.30am and it took until ten past bloody ten to locate a human being. This person had indeed listened to my message but hadn't bothered to return my call. The website states that they will aim to get an engineer out the same day if you telephone them before 10am, which I had done. However it was not possible to get anyone out today. The website says that if you telephone after 10am, which I had also done, they will aim to get an engineer out the next day. Not possible. It seems that during the school holidays everyone and his mother rings up to get their faulty appliances repaired (I wonder how many faulty appliances are out there, gathering dust, waiting for the school holidays!). Not until Friday afternoon at the earliest and if the engineer doesn't have the necessary part with him it could be another bloody week before the cooker oven works properly.
Why the EFFING HELL don't things work first time, anymore? Why do you have to have something that is brand spanking new repaired before you can use it?
