I won't bore you with the circumstances but yesterday i ended up listening to the last few minutes of Telford's play-off defeat on Radio Shropshite. Through 'meeting' Giggy here, i had built up a certain amount of goodwill towards the 'new' Telford and felt genuinely disappointed for him at the result.
As time finally ran out on their 4-0 aggregate defeat by Barrow, the commentator was saying what a great performance it had been by Telford to finish 2nd this season and that he saw them as potential champions next time. He went on to say "Of course, we'll have the Northern teams coming down from the Conference and they'll be strong. Stafford Rangers under Steve Bull. Ha! Maybe not so strong!"
I emitted a low growl of escaping goodwill at this reminder of everything i ever hated about the 'old' Telford. To paraphrase Kevin Keegan, i would 'love it! just love it!' if we could beat them!

To be fair this doesn't come off as bad as Radio Lincolnshire did when covering Boston v Blyth, in which they discussed and made fun of the various grounds they'd visited that season, with emphasis on Blyth. They then had a phone in for boston fans to discuss the worst ground they had visited.
I'd put that comment down to banter to be fair, whenever Telford or Shrewsbury lose (the latter happens a lot) the other team's fans text to Radio Shropshire in to laugh about it. Telford and Stafford are old rivals and are being reunited after being in different leagues for quite a while. Perhaps harsh to taunt a team when they have been relegated but we've had worse, in 2004 we had Burton fans taunting us because we were on the verge of oblivion.

The comments caught me at a bit of a bad moment and came over as a bit crass and hurtful to boot. On a better day, i would have felt more than happy that we were important enough to get a mention. Hopefully we can put him straight on the field next season.
Working where i do the comments from the Burtscum fans sound fairly typical. I would have been amazed had it been any different.
