What has been your all time favorite game involving your team?
For me, it has to be a choice of 2, Aylesbury away in April 1999 or Crapshalton at home December 2003
Aylesbury away 10/4/99, 4-1 victory. Aylesbury had dominated the title race in the Ryman Premier in 98/99, at one point being 12 points ahead of Sutton. As is the way, all teams go through a sticky patch, and Sutton were not only able to make up that lead, but a 1-0 Aylesbury defeat against Chesham, combined with a 3-0 derby demolition of Crapshalton for Sutton saw Sutton go top of the league on Easter Monday by 1 point. The following Saturday, Sutton were away at Aylesbury. 5-700 Sutton fans (rough apporx) squeezed into the away end at Aylesbury, saw Sutton take an early 2 goal lead via an O.G and Algerian striker Nassim Akour. However after half an hour, disaster struck when midfielder Paul Harford was dismissed for an innoucos challange on Aylesbury midfielder Paul Rutherford. The U's were able to weather the storm untill half-time, but 7 minutes after the restart Aylesbury equalised. With their backs against the wall, the U's played good football taking control of the game again, and on 76 minutes Akour scored again for the U's. But the scoring wasn't over, and on the 84th minute Akour scored his hat-trick goal in front of (and in) a jubilent travelling U's army, who watched on as Sutton began to take the mick out of a deflated and beaten Aylesbury side. Of course we went on to win the league. Final score Aylesbury 1 Sutton 4
Crapshalton home, 27/12/2003. The big derby, after 2 seasons in the Ryman 1st/South divisions, Crapshalton were back, and shocked the whole league by storming to the top early on, whereas Sutton sunk to the relegation places. In early November, Sutton manager John Rains replaced stars Danny Bolt and Mark Watson with new players Tony Quinton (signed from Croydon Athletic) and Tobi Jinadu (signed from Welling United) as well as putting promising youngster Jon Nurse in the 1st team. By the end of the year, Sutton were at the begining of the run which would take them to 2nd at the end of the season, the posistion Crapshalton occupied at Christmas 2003. For once Crapshalton bought more than 1 man and a dog to Gander Green Lane, with their glory boys confident of a victory, however Sutton tore into the bobbins at the 1st available oppertunity and on the 9th minute Jon Nurse scored from a rebounded Matt Fowler shot that had hit the post. After 25 minutes the U's got a free kick in a awkard angle on the right, but Matt Gray was more than up to the challange and netted the U's 2nd goal. In the 2nd period, Sutton came out with a greater sense of determination, after 56 minutes, Matt Fowler was on the score sheet. Sutton had to wait till past the hour mark for goal number 5, but the wait was worthwhile as Paul Honey hit a thunderbolt only the net could stop (and it sturgled). The 74th minute saw the U's go 4 up, Matt Fowler scoring a diving header. On the 80th minute the U's got a penalty, Fowler took it looking for his hat-trick, however it was an effort Jonny Wilkenson would of been proud of. However Fowler was going to get his hat-trick 4 minutes later, against his 1st club, running to celebrate with the Sutton fans. Final score Sutton 6 (Six) Crapshalton 0
