Ashton won their game in hand tonight so are now only behind us on goal difference. We need to match their result on Saturday now.

Guiseley will be a tough game for Leek as Guiseley need a win to have a chnace at going into the playoffs. We did a double over Guisley (1-0 A, 3-2 H) but in our home game in particular they showed they are a good team and dangerous, will take advantage of any mixups in the defence. That said you need the points just as much. Best of luck, Leek is always a pleasant place to visit.
Ashton have a tough game against Fleetwood aswell though Fleetwood have ntohnig to play for now after losing to Mossley last night. They can't make the playoffs. Fleetwood do seem to have a habit of slipping up to against teams which are lower down. If you both won then you could both overtake Kendal who are at home to Hednesford. Earlier in the season that would have been a tough match but Phil Starbuck's "blowing up" comments seem to have been about himself. As far as I'm concerned kendal are the favourites for that match as Hednesford have been in very poor form since they started 2007 (where oddly enough we beat them 1-0 on New Years day). That said anything can happen in this league, Witton drew with last placed Grantham 4-4 when Grantham didn't even have a keeper on the pitch.
Good luck but be prepared as Guiseley will be out for 3 points, they are a good footballing side but I reckon you can win this if your team give 100% (though that can be said about any game in football) , it will depend on which side wants the points more. Dont assume Ashton or Kendal will drop points (now that I've read that it really is stating the obvious, never assume anything in football, ever!) as Fleetwood & Hednesford have nothing to play for anymore, you need to aim for all 3 points.
Long story short: Good luck Leek, and I felt like rambling on again.

I worry about having to play Guiseley on Saturday. They are very much a bogey side for us. We must have played them 14-16 times over the last dozen or so years and I think we have only beaten them once. My recollection of Guiseley is of them being a big, strong route one kind of team rather than a passing side. However, I hope Giggy is right as we tend to fare better against the footballing sides as our own players generally are neither big nor strong. Also on the plus side we haven't fared too badly against the teams at the top end of the table (Apart from Telford). I would also like to extend my best wishes to Carshalton on Saturday though some of you may want to lynch me for saying so. ;D

I do however remember them being determined and going for every ball. In both games we won by one goal but they pushed for an equaliser right until the final whistle and didn't give up.

Telford 1-2 Burscough Witton 2-0 FrickleyMeans we finish 3rd overall and will be at home to Marine in the playoff semi-final. If we win that the final will be either away at Witton Albion or at home to Matlock. Burscough deserved their win today and were very good, was good however to see a lot of our fans stay to applaud them as they lifted their trophy. Nice to see we're still good sports but given our past as a team who normally finished midtable in the conference we had to learn to be good sports. A record crowd of 5710 came today, between 200 & 300 from Burscough I believe. An immense atmosphere and a good game. An good day out until the final whistle. Disappointing as we were top of the league for most of the season and were 10 points clear but these things happen. Before the season we'd have been happy with 3rd as we wanted a playoff place, top 3 if possible. Expectation rose when the results were good so it is a bit disappointing to lose the title now. Still, playoffs yet and if we can get 2 wins here then it won't matter at the end pf the day.

F*ck me Giggy, i have no idea how you manage to be so sensible.
I'd be pissed as anything and crying if that had happend to us. Fair enough, lose the league, but to watch the team who beat you pick up the trophy instead!

I'd worn myself out too much in the match to be angry now, My sister has said she won't be anywhere near me next time we have a big game. Apparently I was getting a bit scary by the end of it. If we had got an equaliser Witton were winning so if the scores stayed like that they would have had the trophy. For a while before they announced Witton's final score over the tanoy I was part-hoping they had won by 3 goals. If they had They would have tied on goal difference and Witton would have won on goals scored. The Burscough fans stopped celebrating momentarily to hear the Witton score, as they announced Witton won 2-0 they got a bit louder, the ones who worke dout that meant they'd won were celebrating. Then the announcer said thsi meant Burscough won by 1 on goaldifference they were louder then ever. I decided in hindsight that atleast it meant we wouldn't have to face Burscough in the playoffs so it's a good thing. As the league table suggests they are probably the best team we have played this season so playing them again would have been very hard. I like to think I'm fairly sporting so I stayed to clap both teams off the pitch and applauded Burscough as they lifted their trophy. We then waited to see who we have in the playoffs. We're at home to Marine and if we win that we're then either away at Witton or at home to Matlock. Against Marine we had a 2-0 win away and a draw at home (though their manager admitted we should have won) Witton we did a double this season (3-1 at home, 1-0 away) against matlock we won 3-1 at home, lost 2-1 away to a very dodgy penalty decision. All the other 3 teams are very good sides and defender Richard Teesdale is injured now, captain and other defender Steve Pope is doubtful for Tuesday and suspended for the Saturday if we go through (he was out injured most of the season but then got sent off against North Ferriby on his 3rd game back.....another dodgy decision (one booking was for telling the NFU player he was out of order), there were a lot in that match though. Goalkeeper Stuart Brock was also limping throughout the second half but he should hopefully be ok. If we're down 2 defenders though we may have trouble playing our usual 5-3-2. I'd personally try a 4-3-3 but that's just me. Matlock is nice but they can be very paranoid. If you have too many fans they are scared of you. Seriously, they refused to walk past the home end at the new bucks head because there were too many people in it! Our fans were loud that day but not in the least bit aggressive. We then went on an 11 game run without a win though which whittled down our 10 point lead at the top. We'll give it 120% though and if we don't go up it won't be through lack of effort. I'll save my final reaction until next week, if we win the playoffs I'll be happy anyway.

Well, we came from behind to win 2-1 with the winner coming in the 85th minute. ;D ;D Just as well really as Ashton won their match 3-0, although results in the Ryman league meant that a draw would have been enough. We actually finished 17th in the end. Apparently our manager was knocked out during the warm up before the game when a shot hit him full in the face but recovered sufficiently to take his place in the dug out. I don't think we've ever been ones to do things the easy way.
