I guess it depends on how you define "well-known." From Loy's description it does sound like they are pretty well-known, but some people might define well-known as someone that everyone they meet would have heard of.

Thought I'd add my latest to this, all pretty mainstream I'm afraid, not like you highbrows!! Stand - REM Live And Let Die - Wings Absent Friends - Jimmy Nail Love Over Gold - Dire Straits Life Is A Minestrone In My Life - Rod Stewart There Must Be An Angel - Eurythmics With A Little Help From My Friends - Beatles Us And Them - Pink Floyd Kingston Town - UB40 Show my age really, but certainly a variety!! Sorry boys and girls but I do watch Soccer AM, but pay very little attention to the bands they have on.

Bands that sound like that or bands from the 70s that sound like that? Interesting stuff. Sounds like a mix of doom, stoner, krautrock, psychedelic, heavy blues and lo-fi to me, so you might like some or all of Sleep, Masters of Reality, OM, Litmus, Incredible Expanding Mindf uck, Saint Vitus, A Place to Bury Strangers, Six Organs of Admittance... I don't think any of those were active in the 70s though. 01. Clutch – "Opossum Minister" (2007) 02. Masters of Reality – "Baby Mae" (1999) 03. Mansun – "Legacy" (1998) 04. Fischerspooner – "Just Let Go" (2005) 05. Oceansize – "Monodrones" (2009) 06. Sufjan Stevens – "Decatur, or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother!" (2005) 07. Radiohead – "Creep" (1993) 08. Lunatic Soul – "Summerland" (2008) 09. 7 for 4 – "E-Gyptian" (2001) 10. Living Colour – "Method" (2009)

today i've listened to samiam and texas is the reason whilst walking the dog. 2 of the very best emo bands ever. still amazing every time i listen to them.
also been listening to the new voice of the seven thunders album which is a great psych/rock LP, an old spacemen 3 album and the new record from real estate which is nice summery indie rock stuff.

You London types... Two of Tamworth's better bands are playing in your town on Sunday (May 30th) at the Good Ship. Blue Veils + Le Vens + At the Zoo + Cromwells League + Atmosphere and the Dot Dot Dot + John O'Shea www.musicglue.com/promotingParty/thegoodship/gig/f47c53ab-d987-4ed5-a104-6ee27a3ae19cwww.myspace.com/thegoodshipwww.myspace.com/atthezoobandwww.myspace.com/cromwellsleagueFile under: indie – Cromwell's League are on the safer pop side of the fence while At the Zoo are a touch ska/punk and tend to get people bouncing around. I'd guess 7pm would be early enough to catch the Tamworthians. 01. Japan – "Quiet Life (extended version)" 02. No-Man – "Simple" 03. Little Boots – "Meddle (Ebola remix)" 04. Minus the Bear – "Memphis & 53rd" 05. Masters of Reality – "King Richard TLH" 06. Pendulum – "Salt in the Wounds" 07. Oceansize – "One Out of nONE" 08. Slayer – "Spirit in Black" 09. Steven Wilson – "Nailbomber" 10. IAMX – "The Negative Sex"
