Fellow Tinpot Citizens,
I am gladdened, nay thrilled, to announce that this year's cancelled Riverside Festival has been reinstated!
It is rather obvious that this development is VERY recent and the festival is still in its earliest planning stages (see www.stamfordonline.co.uk/riverside/default.htm for some sketchy details) and as such it will be a TINPOT VERSION as they don't have a lot of time to organise it for Saturday, July 7. This is presumably the week before your pre-season campaign starts.
For those not familiar with the Riverside Festival, it takes place on Stamford Meadows, Stamford, Lincolnshire on the first Saturday in July each year, although last year's was supposed to be the last one as the festival organisers were running out of money! The festival is something of a Tinpot Tradition that we started on the old Pyramid Portal forum oooh, three years ago? It involves plenty of good quality live music with different stages for different genres (not yet sure how they're going to work that this year for the scaled-down version), lots of different food, stalls selling all sorts of trinkets and here's the best bit: a huge beer festival tent with about 50 different beers to try last year, although this year we don't yet know how big they're going to make it. Entry to the festival is free and it runs from 1pm-11pm, but we normally make a weekend of it, because Stamford is a beautiful town, with many excellent little pubs and restaurants as well as a great atmosphere on festival day, cheap and friendly accommodation and an extremely tinpot local football team!
Anyone who's interested in going as part of the Tinpot group, please say so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, because we need to know numbers to book accommodation and sort out transport for those of us who live in the same general direction from Stamford as each other. I have already booked Martello in whether he likes it or not The town isn't big and it does get booked up for accommodation very quickly as the festival is extremely popular. One can always spill over into Peterborough nearby, but it isn't anywhere near as nice as Stamford and I personally would like to stay in Stamford this year...preferably within easy reach of the Green Man pub, which does absolutely superb food and beer and has also become something of a Tinpot Tradition.
If you do come along you will not regret it, believe me Even if you don't drink beer there's something for everyone.
