I sometimes wear earplugs in bed as my wife snores! I 'liberate' some of those yellow spongey ones from work. I only do it as a last resort though as they aren't very comfortable.

lol, it's even worse when you haven't got a clue what they are saying. Overhearing Spanish conversations and indeed Spanish sex (though it never lasted very long or was particularly loud so Javier can't have been that good at it!) for most of last year was infuriating beyond belief because i didn't know why they were talking so late or what about despite it being clearly audible.

I hate that too- when you want peace and quiet and people are talking in languages you can't understand! For some reason I find it more irritating than people talking in languages I can undertand

Perche trovi irritante, eh? E perche non capisce e il suo cervello non ha senso dei rumori della lingua straniera, percio trovi seccante. E facile! Non ascolti, leggi un libro

That's probably a good idea, Ojive darling, but sometimes even a good book doesn't help because I can't concentrate on it. You're forgetting I did Latin at school

Blimey, I have difficulty with English, never mind dead languages like Latin. Mind you they tried to ram some into my head at my Junior school!

I found Latin a very simple language to learn once you've got the basic principles. As for English, I've found since I started learning Latin that I find unfamiliar English words or grammatical structures a lot easier to understand. Basically, Latin helps you learn and improve on your English, which is probably one reason why schools all used to teach it.

True. Alas all that I learned at my very good junior school, ie. Latin and French was lost when I went to my senior school where a lots of the kid could barely read English. It took them about three years to catch up with me, sort of, and by that time I'd basically become very lazy with my learning as I'd had to do very little for three years.

Latin is a great 'language' to learn if you want to have an idea of how English works. A solid grounding in Latin grammar still helps me today. Vipera est in herba longa. Apropos earlier in the thread I find that generally when in bed listening to nocturnal conversations, they always appear to be speaking fluent bollocks. Something I have been known to do in my time.
