Reckon he'll do well at Leek, a very good signing. Personally I was surprised when we released him end of 2005/06 season.
His preferred position is striker, he's not a 20 goal a season player but will do a lot of running around, bringing the ball forward and setting goals up for a striker partner. He did at some point play prettymuch every position for us at some point. Played midfield, defence and even in goal on 3 occasions. Always gives 100% wherever he plays.
i remember Hednesford last season when we played, them. They were 2nd in the league at the time but definitely nothing special from what we saw. In both games Darren was one of their best players, alongside goalkeeper Ryan Young who we've signed anyway. In the away game Darren was sent off, unusual for him as he isn't a dirty player normally, quite rightly sent off this time though for a 2-footed lunge on our wingback Lee Vaughan. As soon as he was sent off they prettymuch stopped attacking altogether.
Hope he does well with you at Leek, best of luck next season.

We've brought a player in on a trial. See how he does over preseason and then he may sign.
Andy Tretton, former Shrewsbury, Hereford & Accrignton defender. Was full time until April when an ongoing knee injury led to him having to retire from proffessional football. Tretton hopes to establish himself at a semi-pro level if he can prove his fitness. If he can do then a very promising signing indeed. He will be assessed over the preseason before a decision is reached.

With complete respect, Giggy, looking back at this single thread alone, HOW do you know all this!! Are you the Manager's son, or do you just research like a loon, or is your website seriously helpful?? I am in awe of your apparently complete knowledge of every player you acquire, young Sir!! When Salisbury sign a player, it's usually unknown to anyone (including the Manager... ) for about a week, then someone hears a rumour, then the local Paper mentions that he's on trial, then it's denied, then a mate tells you he got hammered with the player and that 'it's true', then the Secretary says "he has not completed forms", and it all goes quiet for a month. Next thing is you see him in a photo on a website based 200 miles away sporting a Salisbury shirt............. I know I'm daft about these little sentimental niceties, but I had been led to believe we are now a ' Professional' outfit...!

SHORT ANSWERI do a lot of research before announcing anything, gathering info and checking something is official before posting. I have a lot of sources, some more reliable than others. To put it simply I have no life. LONG ANSWERWe're very lucky with the local media coverage we get, being the second highly placed team in Shropshire we have a story on the back page of the Shropshire Star almost every day. Fairly often it's even the headline. Credit also to the guys who do the website ( www.telfordutd.co.uk/), they always seem to be up to date. If there's a signing one of the newspaper/website has usually got it quickly, the other will then follow suit within the next day. Our manager Rob Smith always moves quickly and gets his team sorted very early on, that's why there's so many all signed up already and done before starting preseason and little mention before they are officially signed. The rumours rarely give away too much as the manager won't give anything away until it's official and on paper. He'll say he's talking to a (insert position) this week but always plays his cards close to him hoping not to attract other teams. We've lost targets this season to teams like Nuneaton with a lot more money to pass about so we try and keep things quiet until then so there's less chance of this happening. We sometimes get speculation & rumours which eventually turn out to be true (plus the odd one which isn't, sometimes thrown in as a joke, once someone did this and it even got mentioned in the Shropshire Star, though the manager was quick to dismiss this when asked about it the next day), oddly enough they're often from fans of other teams posting on Buckschat or another forum. These don't seem to last long because as said before we seem to try and sort these things out quickly, then there isn't much chance for the rumours to get about too much. When they do I don't pay any real attention until it's been confirmed though. i gather all the info and then post it in one go....as I said before I have no life. When info is low on the ground on player info I will do a bit of research myself, other teams websites/forums are often a good place to start. As we don't give away anything in advance it had been officially released on the Halesowen website that Matty Lewis had signed for us before anyone in Telford actually knew about it. The website & paper often seem to know something about each player when they sign. When in doubt one of the older/wiser people of Buckschat seems to know something about the player from his time at (insert club), or in some slightly creepy cases guess who the player is before it's announced, Fitzpatrick last season for instance. I don't actually mention it here until it's official though. The amount of coverage plus the way it's handled mean we usually get info shortly after it's happened but not too quickly that it isn't definite, not too slow that we don't know what's gonig on at the New Bucks Head. IRRELEVANT ANSWEROn another note I've played football with the manager's son, and the assistant manager's son. If by any chance they reported back on my performance then I doubt i'll be reporting my signing for the Bucks any time soon.

Strange. Stars are supposed to travel from West to East, not the other way. Must be the effect of the d**e. Puts it offa its orbit. Great effort, though, Giggy, and your research skills are NOT being wasted!

Ah yes. The Shropshire Star. Woe betide anybody who stops my Grandad getting his copy of that ) (yes, they deliver the Shropshire Star in Wales) Yep think most of Wales get it for some reason, as do half the surrounding counties, we're not too sure why. It's a pretty good read though to be fair. There's even a small town in Wales* known as LlanShrewsbury which gets its own special edition of it. Made specifically so they can forget about the people of Telford/Shifnal/Bridgnorth/Ludlow/Market Drayton/Newport/England/etc, all of whom the people of Shrewsbury consider below them. *They'll say otherwise in LlanShrewsbury but we let Wales have Shrewsbury a while back. We never really liked it anyway. Strange. Stars are supposed to travel from West to East, not the other way. Must be the effect of the d**e. Puts it offa its orbit. Great effort, though, Giggy, and your research skills are NOT being wasted! My parents and teachers would argue otherwise, they say I should spend less time/energy remember football and more on A Level Physics.

My parents and teachers would argue otherwise, they say I should spend less time/energy remember football and more on A Level Physics. It's all good! I expect you've told us, but what A Levels are you going to take? Or is it a combination of AO/OA levels these days? And if you have a bit of flexibility, can't you do a course which will allow you to use your interest in footie? History? Journalism? Statistics?? Do they have such a thing as 'Independent Studies' at A Level, or would you have to wait until College?

I'm at college now, finished my first year and done: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths, Further Maths. You normally only do 4 subjects in the first year which I did to begin with, had this big gap in the middle of the day with no lessons because of how the timetable worked out so I took up a 5th subject for then. You then drop one subjects and go down to 3 if you're a normal person.
Next year I'm definitely going down to 4 subjects at the most, most likely dropping further maths again. I want to do Medicine at University so I need Chemistry & Biology plus one other (probably maths), I'm unsure on whether to take physics as an extra subject incase my grade in one of the above isn't quite up to scratch, or whether I should do just 3 subjects next year so I can focus on Biology a bit more and improve that, Bio being my favourite subject but also my weakest probably.
I'll base my decisions on my results which come out in August, I'm not looking forward to them.

Wow! What a great few years you have ahead! ;D A cynical, practical person would say to JUST concentrate on scoring the most points in 3 subjects! But if you can get A grades in 3, and do a 4th subject without affecting the main 3, then do it! But don't overstretch yourself. Things may seem okay now, but in January you may have a cold, have Mock exams, have fallen out with your lifelong sweetheart, may have no money, an infirm parent/sibling/friend, be feeling really low, Telford may be in the Relegation zone, lost your Mobile, had your bike nicked, your hamster may have copped it, and Terry Wogan may be threatening to quit his coverage of the Eurovision song Contest!! So don't assume you will be at your best all the time. If you can achieve the necessary grades without doing the 4th subject, you may be wise to spend your time developing your extra-curricular life (such as a healthy hobby like watching and following a Non-League Football Club?) and get more involved in that. In an interview for Medecine, the panel will want some spark - some hint of a personality in there - not just a diagnosis computer. They already have that online facility - it's called NHS Direct. If you can show them you've got all that, plus an analytical mind which is allied/applied to your passion, I reckon you'll do well. Though you'll have about 3 minutes in which to convert 'them' to NL football. Period! ;D Biology A Level is necessary, but does not need to be perfect. A zen-like feel for what the body is, how it functions, and how other people feel is probably more vital - though there are no exams in this! Don't listen to me, though. TALK TO A PROPER CAREERS PERSON about your A Level options. Hopefully they know what is best for you to pursue. Wish I was at your stage of life again!!

To be honest Giggy, do what you need to get in and do it well. The second you get a yes from a uni the last 18 years of education mean bugger all. Once you're up the step you rarely needed to look back on it, so to continue my bizarre analogy, get up the step as easily as you can. Also, for Personal Statements and interviews, you really, really have to sound interesting and balanced, big up anything you do that you can link to how great you are for the course. Sometimes i think i'm better at making myself sound great than actually being great I managed to link pretty much everything i do to design, including Sutton, it did help that i designed the SUST logo but i also found that saying that my obsessively loyal football following was indicative of how i throw myself into and am passionate about all the things i like (in my case, Design, Korfball and Sutton United) very persuasive in explaining why it's good that i go to random faraway fields on wet winter evenings
