Young signed a 1 year contract from hednesford, very good goalkeeper and initially thought to be to provide competition, with a 5-man bench we can have 2 keepers in the squad now, with the news on Brrockie though turns out this isn't the case.
Cornes was on loan to end of last season but his contract ran out so we signed him o na 1 year contract. Scored a brilliant goal in playoff final from a good 30 yards out, was on the books of Wolves at one point.
Vermiglio signed from Scarbrough, before that he was at Chorley where he was player of the season two years running. Don't know much about this player but manager Rob Smith says he was a long term target who he couldn't sign earlier as he was on a contract, this ran out this summer.
Lewis played for Halesowen against us in the FA Cup where they won 4-2. He scored al 4 of their goals though admittedly two were again a 9-man Telford side (both wingbacks Craven & Vaughan sent off) and another was a rebound after we blocked a penalty. Nevertheless 4 goals is always a good achievment and he looked a good player, people commented he's be a good addition to the squad then. ISIHAC may remember this.
Willis isn't a big surprise for most of us, started well with a great free kick goal from 35 yards out, has struggled to get in the team since then. Has signed for hednesford and good luck to him, didn't work out here but no one could question his effort. They rated him very highly at Leigh RMI before he came here but it just didn't happen for him when he came to Telford.
Foster was a strange decision when you think he was out top scorer and did cost us £3000. However of his 18 goals only 6 have been since October and he has strugled with form for the later part of the season. Let himself down with 2 red cards late in games away at Lincoln (won 4-0) and home to Kendal (drew 2-2). He did score our 3rd goal against witton in playoff final however. Best of luck to him, rumours suggest he'll be going to a club closer to his home in Manchester next.
Mellings was an odd decision. Some have commented though that our goalkeeping errors have been tactical and that would have been his department. Others commented it could be cost cutting with Brock taking on role of GK Coach as we need more money on playing wages at the next level if we want to compete. News below suggests this wasn't the case but again may be cost cutting. Good luck to him wherever he goes next.
Brock is a decision which surprised me as last season he had the 2nd best defence rcord in the Unibond (beaten 40 times in 42 games, a record only bested by Burscough). Youg did well at Hednesford to conceed just 41 (3rd best record) and i thought these two players to be the best & second best keepers in the Unibond. Brock was a it shakey later in the season bt everyone was, in the last few games he did very well though on a whole. He's on the transfer list as he has a year left on his contract, think that means he can still be on the bench though until a team comes in for him (which I doubt will take too long). Can't say this a decision I agree with but Rob Smith & Larry chambers haven't led us wrong yet so I'm sure they know what they're doing. Good luck to him when he does go to a new club.

Apart from those who have renewed their contracts, we have signed Gareth Sheldon from Hereford and ex-Northern Ireland international Gerry Taggart.

Our manager Rob Smith & his assistant Larry Chambers both like to start work very early. Surprised me how quick they were going to be honest. Given that they're both part time here so both also have demanding full time jobs, both have families and when we're not playing or training seem to be off scouting the other teams I seriously wonder if they have time to eat or sleep. According to some sources after we lost to Burscough just before going into the playoffs Rob spent the Sunday driving around the midlands checking the players were ok and ready for one last push the next week. They're definitely committed, think they were targetting a few more players but they like to be finished with most of their signings before some have even started.

Us on the other hand have in the past waited till a week before pre season friendlies and appear to hope the players turn up. That has changed since JR went off course and we're a lot more professional now. I understand that at least two of our regular first teamers are moving on, although not confirmed. Matt Gray to Woking Ryan Palmer to ?

There is no evidence of that whatsoever, apart from a Woking fan saying he's heard a rumour they might be signing Matt. However nothing has been heard from our secretary who usually reacts rather crossly to false rumours. But I still won't believe anything until I see it.

Absolutely not, dear chap. I won't hear of it.
I have heard, however, that this has been confirmed. I shall go and collect evidence.

One of the many reasons I have a down on the current set-up at RR is that we get told all sorts of guff about players coming in on contract terms who, we eventually find out, are released at very short notice. Even worse we rarely get told if players have left for whatever reason.
So far we have only had confirmation that 4 players' contracts till the end of the coming season have been ratified and that one has been given a year's extension on his current contract.

23/05/07
We've released another 8 players today.
Tyrone Barnett (Str) Richard Beale (Def) Dennis Pearce (Def) Lee Chilton (Mid) Dean Perrow (Str) Jai Stanley (Mid) Ben Twigger (Mid) Dave Woodvine (Def*)
*I think, Woodvine played at centre-back, left-wingback, right-wingback and centre-midfield at different times. Usually as cover though, looked most comfortable at wingback I thought, particularly on the right. He was injured for fair bit of the season though.
I'm surprised about Beale & Twigger, both seemed quality players. Beale struggled to get his preferred position of left-wingback with Dean Craven usually in good form. When Twigger played he seemed to score a goal so I'm noit sure why he wasn't in the squad more often, thought he was a useful player.
Chilton, Perrow & Barnet were all players for the future. Perrow & Barnett spent a lot of season out on loan nd were released now, presumably no longer pert of the long term plans. Chilton was a recent signing, played well but didn't seem to fit into our 5-3-2 formation. When he got dropped he stopped turning up for training apparently, shame as he is a good player.
Stanley didn't make the impact people expected. Good on the ball and a lot of skill but didn't seem to get stuck in. At this level in a 3-man midfield you need to get stuck in more. I thought he may have done better in the conference north as it is supposedly less physical than the Unibond.
Pearce was signed as cover last season during our centre-back crisis, a few games in he was injured already. Didn't make much of an impact, so far just says he won't be offered new terms which I think means he'll be released.
Good luck to all of them.
Young goalkeeper Damien Stevens has signed for next year though will likely be on loan for much of the season to gain experience.
The whole squad has been dealt with but for 2 playrs, Steve Palmer and Gary Fitzpatrick. My guess is both will be offered new terms next season as they are key players. If they were being released they would have alongside all of the others. This now leaves us with a squad of 19 players including those not yet signed and the transfer listed player. We hope to sign a few more yet I think though.

Firkin 'ell Giggy. How big was your squad? ? Stevie Palmer made his mind up yet. Quality player, us at Hucknall were sorry/shocked when he was "shown the door" by Kev Wilson.

The exodus has begun at Leek. Manager Paul Moore quit last week Ant Danylyk > Witton Albion Dave MacPherson > Hednesford Town That's our 2 best midfielders gone. I'm hearing a rumour that Hednesford have also offered a contract to Alan Nagington who has been our leading scorer for the last 2 seasons. This is depressing.
